In the two years since the acquisition of these JSA’s/PSC’s, BPE management also acquired several other assets, including the North Sokang and Titan JSA’s which were subsequently awarded PSC’s in November 2010. The ownership of all these related assets came under the sole control of the parent company, BPE, on 23 April 2010. In December 2010, the Company also won a direct tender for the Sokang PSC.
The Company’s assets are all located offshore Indonesia, in proven basins with a focus on Makassar Strait, East Java, and East Natuna.
The Company has an attractive near term high impact exploration asset portfolio consisting of: (1) a deepwater PSC (North Makassar) with high upside reserves potential and moderate risk, (2) two shallow water PSC’s (Sokang and North Sokang) adjacent to one another with gas discoveries and significant exploration potential, (3) a shallow water PSC (North Madura) with low risk, moderate reserve potential near existing production infrastructure and, (4) a shallow water PSC (Titan) on trend to proven reserves.
Over the course of the next 12-36 months, the Company at a minimum envisages drilling at least one exploration well in the North Makassar PSC, two appraisal wells in the North Sokang PSC, and one exploration well in the Sokang PSC. In addition, the Company plans to participate in two wells in East Java, for a total of six wells overall, subject to certain conditions such as government approvals, rig availability, etc., with further follow on drilling activity, depending upon the success.
Overall, the portfolio represents moderate to low risk exploration targets with significant upside in North Sokang, Sokang, and North Makassar, and moderate base case resources in North Madura, and Titan. The relative exploration risk and resource potential are depicted in the below Exploration Risk and Upside Graphic.
